The children will be choosing an animal they want to protect from extinction. We will research and learn about their habitat, study their behaviours and discover where they live. Each child will get to create their own clay sculpture to bring home.

Endangered Animals

The children will be choosing an animal they want to protect from extinction. We will research and learn about their habitat, study their behaviours and discover where they live. Each child will get to create their own clay sculpture to bring home.
Monday:
Knowing about the endangered animals, what animals are endangered and why. How can we help them? (brainstorm ideas: money raising, fundraisers protecting them). Choosing our favorite animals and drawing it in its natural healthy environment. Talking about our week, organizing our projects and a clay introduction; What clay comes from? etc.
Tuesday:
Making our animal out of clay with different ceramics techniques (slabs, pinch and coils).
Wednesday:
Painting with underglazes, bubble technique and splashing. (pieces will be fired that night).
Thursday:
Wheel throwing all day and finding materials (sticks, leaves, etc) to make a nice environment for our new animal firing.\
Friday:
Work presentation. Wheel throwing goodbye party and clay body painting. Story time.
Materials:
➢3 kg. white stoneware (wheel throwing + Hand-building)
➢ Glazes (glossy-opaque transparent)
➢ Underglazes (10 different colours)
➢ Firings x 2 (bisque + glaze)

Studio outside setting with tents with sidewall sun/rain protectors. We will be outside all day and we will go to the park for snacks and outdoors activities. Bathroom-books- board games fridge with fresh water in our nice cozy indoor studio to hang around. Water balloons and a bunch of outdoors games to go wild and have fun running around at the park.
