Learn all about the thrown, altered and composite options for the differently shaped pot, extending what wheel throwing can offer. You will learn the fundamentals of adding and subtracting clay, re-shaping pieces off the wheel and joining separate pieces to change the look of your pots and find out how subtle changes in these adaptations can markedly alter the structure of your pottery. Prepare to enhance your pottery in ways that will allow you to break out of the usual round limitations found in wheel throwing and have your pots resonate with your unique artistic vision.
First session (7/13)-Tess will demonstrate the techniques students will be covering, together you will work out what you want to create using these techniques then you’ll have time to throw pieces that fit your vision, which will be worked on at the second session.
Second session (7/14)- Tess will cover further details and working with you to deconstruct and reassemble those pots into the shapes you envisioned on the first night. Basic throwing skills are required to take this class. Firings are included for actively enrolled students and studio members only. If you are not a member you can still take the workshop, but anything you make cannot be fired.
