Hi!
This workshop is offered as a follow up to the "Intro to Metal Sculpture" class. However, If you have already had a bit of experience with Welding & fabrication elsewhere, then you are welcome to join! If you have no previous welding or metal shop experience please do not sign up to this class but instead, register for Intro to Metal Sculpture. We promise you'll love it :D
In this open workshop you will have a Metal Fabricator Sculptor as your creative guide however, YOU will be expected to come up with a design and build a project primarily on your own, either plan it in advance or decide during the day we meet. Students will be briefly re-introduced to the previous skills you learned then, given advance techniques to these skills and, students will also be introduced to new tools not previously used in the "Intro" class, as well as gain more experience overall.
This is an opportunity to advance your experience level and build an awesome project! Your 3 visits can be ANY you choose from the list of dates I offer. This Open Workshop is offered almost every Saturday and/or Sunday starting at 11am. Once you register, I will keep you updated if new dates/times are added.
Material for projects are limited to the sources we have in our shop offered at no additional cost. These classes produced by the Young Sparks Foundation support a philanthropic endeavor, therefore it is not in our financial means to provide brand new metal materials, otherwise the class rate would be a great deal higher. Our metal supply is only made up of what was donated to us by local artists and businesses, yet scrap items can be quite interesting and can inspire the creative process.
However, if you have a specific project in mind, I suggest you make purchase of fresh material but, before you do, please communicate with me about your design so I can advise you on metal size, type, quality. quantity and where to purchase. I can get you a discount at the local suppliers.
If you have a friend or partner it may be more affordable and fun to collaborate on a project together. Just put your ideas together and work as a team! Collaboration always seems to produce the most magnificent results.
For one price, you will receive 3 total visits at 5 to 6 hours each. That's 15 to 18 hours total to focus on whatever you desire to create. Often student projects are ambitious and take more time than 12 hours. For each additional visit the rate is $75. If your project is deemed quite ambitious, I recommend choosing the EXTENDED course which offers the visits at a greater value.
However, if your project is completed sooner, you'll have extra time to practice and play, and it's easy to make little gift projects in a day! Just contact me in advance about your idea and I can help you with figuring out the time it may take.
I look forward to seeing what you can create!
Sincerely,
~ Day
